First Photoshop

Ok so i wasnt sure whether this should go in the Photoshop Thread or the 2D WIP thread, but feel free to move it admins.

Here is my first complete photoshop project.

Reference picture:.........Ok at this point IMGSHACK is being a pansy

I Edited the Palm Tree into the Picture and shadowed it, i also put a gaussian blur on the top 1 to give a bit of movement.

the sky was darkened and painted a red color,
the moon was just a circle, with a inner and outer glow of pale yellow set at around medium.
a cloud blur was added, i love that tool
I also put movement into the sea using a motion blur on the spray.
Finally i used color burn on the rocks to introduce darker shadows and Highlights where the moons light is cast on the rocks.
I found the basic idea behind this creation from the latest edition of Advanced Photoshop magazine and its been very helpful i must say.

here is the finished result for my first ever Photoshop Project.

hmm some parts are quite well done.. while others look quite bad and unrealistic, something like this i would call 'matte painting' tutorials can be found here for example.

I'm not sure what kind of look you wanted to achieve, is that a moon top left? For me it's the worst part of the image, without it it would look a lot better, it's just quite unrealistic.

The rocks are quite good, but the shadows might be a little too harsh for night conditions.. It seems the sun has gone under the horizon (the clouds are lit from below) so i would also darken them a bit, also I haven't seen such a yellow moon often.. maybe never.

The palm tree idea is nice but the shape is strange, the one on the right should be flipped vertically I think, because palm tree leaves tend to hang downwards don't they?

The motion blur is odd on the leaves, like segmented in some way..

Overall it's quite a good experiment, but the end result slightly dissapointing because you went a bit over the top with some parts, just keep going!

I totally agree with jelmer, the moon throws the whole picture off.

First, its way to big, second its too close, and third too bright/clear.

also, the rocks and sunset look like its around 8 or 9 pm while the moon looks like its maybe 12 pm.

I like the atmosphere of the ground though.

I don't think its bad at all. I actually quite like it. the only think I'll say is that the moon could have a more paint like look. looks great and kinda abstracty. It reminds me of a Japaneses type painting. nice job.
