Error: illegal new face

Hi, I'm modelling a house from some blueprints. I did wat this tutorial said. When I started creating new faces in the windows and doors, one face can not be created. When I connect the vertexes, I get the message "Illegal new face" with an information sign in the popup. I can press 'ok' but that's it. Somebody knows how to fix this?

hmm that's odd, try to check every vertex, make sure it's not double and welded properly, if that doesn't work try copying a polygon and then welding it into position.

Yes do what Jelmer said, and if it doesn't work... Try deleting a polygon or edge that connects to one of the vertices you are trying to draw a polygon from. Then draw the poly you want. Finally re-create the edge or poly you removed. I did that when I had this same error while making my entry for competition #1. I am not sure why Max has an issue, the shape I was making was logically correct. I guess it just took some convincing lol.
