all needs we should know in Rendering in 3ds max?

Hi All,
I'm nearly new in 3ds max , but what's i want to know is some times we have a lot of object in the scene in 3dsmax and we have to render a lot of frame . in any case I have some question , thanks if anyone reply these :
1 - (for 3ds max7.0) what is the system requirements for this ?
(my means CPU , RAM , ... )
2 - whta's the best way to rendering if we want to make a film for e.g. 5 minuts ?
( suppose we have a lot of object with the high quality and texture for objects)
thanks in advance !
yours

it doesn't matter on how high the quality is, what matters is the lighting and the level of realism. You will notice in many CG films they avoid having any shiny objects, and in many ways they 'Bake the lighting into the textures' or use self illuminated textures which will reduce the rendering times.

You are just like many of us, we believe we can create incredible things, well its easy to talk about them but my friend the planning and the organisatio involved in doing them well thats another story.

a 5 minute render can take anywhere from 5 minutes to five days, 25 frames are needed for a second in the UK, could be 30 in your case? But 1 frame depending on the quality may take 10 seconds to ten minutes.

Now you do the maths, with an animation taking such a long time to render, you need to plan everything. What you need to do is to watch a DVD special edition of a CG film and look at 'the making of' then you'll realise whats involved in getting your project off the ground.

Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan, did I say plan?

hope that helped

it's a little confusing , 5 minute take 5 days .
I think it depends on your hardware or ... . is it important ?
if this , what's ur suggestion ?
thanx

for sys requirements visit autodesk's website..
and for rendering an entire scene, it depends on the complexities of the scene.if u have a simple scene then u cud render all of it in a simgle pass.but if u have alot of objects in ur scene,i wud suggest to render in passes.render different set of objects in different passes and then later composite them together..thats a better wat to handle objects without wasting too much time on rendering everything......

apologies what I meant to say was,

a 5 minute animation could take 5 days or more if

- 1 frame takes 5 minutes to render

- you need 25 frames a to make 1 second

then we're talking approximately 24 hours to render 1 second.........

its just that not all frames take as long and some are longer to render where as other are quicker dependant on the complexity of the scene

well we cud have various passes.a pass is just a part of the scene composition that contributes to the overall scene.we cud have visual element passes like a pass for the diffues component, one for ambient occlusion,etc....and we cud also have passes with various objects.say we have lots of objects in a scene, then we cud create layers for various similar objects like we cud have a layer element furniture containing all the furniture, another layer element cars that will contain all the cars in a scene.in this we cud render only the layer that we want to and hide everything else in the render.this helps for compositing purposes and also helps also helps when u dont want to render everything in ur scene and concentrate only on some components(like cars) in ur scene...

XSI has good compositing features within.but im afraid max doesnt...though simple compositing features are there using video post but for most of the purposes we use photoshop, after effects, combustion, etc. for compositing...thats the only way in max...

then the real system requirement is the same thing that Autodesk offer in the site , in spite of this , is it necessary to provide a powerfull system for 3dsmax for rendering ????????

well i suppose having a better processor and more ram and such would improve on your rendering times, when i upgraded from 1gb of ram to 3gb i noticed a small improvement in complex renders. Having a dual core processor compared to a single can have alot of difference.
Just out of curiousity whats your processing speed and ram etc? maybe can give you a better idea if we knew what your running.

cheers
