Re: water

Well, if you're going to get really closeup and want realism you will need lots of polygons, but if there's some distance between the camera and the water you can get away with A few bump maps of different sizes blended together.

Mental ray also has displacement which you can apply to low poly objects yet still produces high res displacement. Also remember the importance of reflections, and the environment to reflect. Particles can also be useful to add a touch of realism with some spray for example.

Re: water

hey there

can perhaps help with water. what kind of water do you want? calm, flowing, in a storm etc?

basically you use a series of noise or displace modifiers to a plane and a little more!

pls let me know which water and add any reference photos if you can and i can post a tutorial for this if i am able to do it!
