Question Destructible Buildings ???

I've searched the forums and am yet to find an answer

How would I go about creating a destructible building within max? Like say if an asteroid or explosive were to strike it.

I'm familiar with the P-array system as a base for falling debris, but of course that would make the whole building into debris

Help on this would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

You could try THIS for starters....it may lead you in the right direction.

It uses VRay for the rendering but it's the method you're after, right?

Regards.

Not quite what i was after sorry, i want falling debris like bricks falling but with bits chipped off them and such.
I tried getting a box and upping the segments, then using P-Array, then a P-bomb which gave alright results but then of course you greatly increase the poly's.....
Does this mean that i will have to model each dammaged brick? lol

Er.....ok.....right.

I've seen a tute somewhere about breaking a wine glass.......that may be more helpful. I doubt you'll find a tute with your exact requirements but there are certainly plenty of tutes out there with 'elements' of what you want to do in them..........adapt these to suit and bingo! It's part of the fun....honest.

Search around for 'Reactor' tutes or 'Particle' tutes, you never know what they may contain until you look at them.......one bit of info from one....another from somewhere else....you get my drift?

It's not something I've really had the time to get into, but on my travels I've seen tutes around that can help you......sorry I can't remember where but the 'WWW' is a pretty big place! LOL.

Good luck, keep us informed of your progress.

Regards.

Make sure you add some particles, lots of dust and little bits of debris, also some bigger detailed chuncks for randomness and realism, it's challenging but possible.

Thanks, between the ideas, i have found a way
i used the reactor style technique, then the impacted bricks, i applied a P array to. So now the bricks that were hit with the most force actually smash up

Also the dust i'll need to do yet but thats relatively easy

Thanks once more guys.
