Lights!

Yet another problem with lighting.

OKay couple of things obviously. Does anyone know what I can do to fix the lights? I like the blue translucent look to the sconce, and want to keep that, but the light coming out of it is terrible.

Also - what can I do to fix the abnormalities on the coffee table?

thanks to TE_ as this is my project spawned from his tutorials! woot!

lights:

there are 2 mrArea Omni in each scnonce. one light is .6 multiplier, 35 Radius (Area Light params) with U:15 V:15 for samples. The other light is .5 multiplier, 10 radius (area light params), U:10 V:10

ahhh.. i just included some screen shots of the settings. can anyone offer any advice to fix these problems? id like to keep that translucent effect of the sconce, but have the light be a soft and spread out.

The shader on the sconce is raytrace for the metal, and mrArchitech Material - translucent shader for the outside (blue part) and mrArchitech Material glazed ceramic on the inside.

about the night scene try to used photometric light that's better in interior scene and make some adjustment in kelvin and maybe you can explore it more.....that's the right thing to do in order to get realistic light scene..

What happens to your coffee table when you remove the mugs? I ask because it appears to be very wierd caustics from the mugs. Like they are catching the light from the sconces and bending it down onto the bottom of the table. Sorry I don't know enough about lighting yet to give you a definate fix, if it turns out to be what I typed. But maybe it would point you in the right direction? I don't know, maybe one of the resident gurus will have the exact answer

Thanks The Head, i think the placement of the mugs was it

Turns out the coffee mugs were inside the glass on the coffee table, or at least intersecting it. I think that was causing some crazy refractions or something.

I fixed the light problem with the night scene, tho. just chose a plain blue raytrace material with a falloff under transparency and self illumination, i think... lol. Also changed the mrArea Point lights to Spot and angled them up. the scene is rendering now so ill have a picture to post after a while.
