which renderer are you using? the Default Renderer?

No i am using mental Ray... with inderect illumination. and bounce to 5

...i am not using photons... does that answer enough???

With your latest render it look really good, but some changes...

Since that is an open sea background maybe add the but just make then rounded and a rustic steel texture. Still not a huge fan of the lighting so what I'd suggest for that , again, since it's open sea you can add a dock light or two. Something like this

nice work so far
though you should change the lights on the ships
They're a little too blinding
also where your dirt is on the pavement seems "hard"
you could alter the pavement texture so the dirt seems to fade

You could instead of changing the texture just add some particles of sand there.

Take out the bum at the edges of the sand a bit to make it look like maybe a wet sand pile would, and it might look better. Either way would look better.

hmmm paragon is right
it would be easier to make particles of sand than changing your texture

Paragon...i dont quite get you... wont the particals Float???

Also I am looking for a good tutorial in outside lighting and dirt materials

I don't exactly mean particles from an explosion; I mean if you pick up that sand on your scene and through it there will be particles of sand everywhere. Also if you walk off a beach you'll see sand everywhere because of people kicking it around as they leave. Is that what you needed to understand?
