looks like a pretty good start! remember to follow the proportions at least somewhat accurately, I think the lower part of the pillar should be a bit higher if you compare it to the upper part, furthermore the steps are a bit strange, too small maybe?

how do u think i should start making the windows?
Should i use a new box or extrude it from the building itself?

i got some work done. i was making the door then i realized that i need the arc on both sides. i extruded the arc from the building itself. and now i can't get it to the other side of the door. what can i do?

heres a pic

i think i am gonna redo the door how would u suggest that i start modeling it.
thanks in avance.

you could delete the polygons on the right side of the door, then select the ones on the left and copy - paste, should work fine, once you have the right side in position as well weld them together.
One thing you need to change though, you're talking about a game design class, but you're wasting many, many polygons. one flat surface only needs one or two polygons, but you're using a lot mroe then that.

Other then that i like it though, keep going!

why do you want to start from the side to the middle?
jelmer: i am taking a game design class, but the isn't for an actual game so i am trying to make it as detailed as possible.

should i use any smoothing on any part of the house?

smoothing isn't really necessary on most parts, when you're close to finished with modeling an individual part i would just apply a new edit poly modifier (so you can still turn that new modifier on and off, keeping your model non destructible) and then chamfer all the sharp edges with a small amount.
This will make your final result far more realistic, another thing you should keep in mind is to add some imperfections, nothing is completely straight in reality so apply some subtle noise from time to time, or move some vertices of a little bit.
