Tutorials

Hey guys,

just a little comment...or more of a suggestion. We're starting to get alot of tutorials coming in, and I think its actually starting to look a little crowded. Maybe it could be organised into separate sub forums with say Modelling, Rendering, Animation etc etc to organise things a little more and make it a little easier for people to find what they want.
There could be a "popular tutorials" section at the top featuring the most downloaded tutorials.

I think its pretty impressive that we have dozens and dozens of quality tutorials, that are all submitted by users, and i think it would look better if they were more organised.

cheers

Re: Tutorials

I second that.

As for 'Popular Tutorials' well yep, great idea, but this would only relate to video tutorials that are downloadable, wouldn't it? As you know, there are lots of tutorials that are just in written form, Jelmers latest tutorial for Photoshop being a prime example, but certainly a great idea.

I appreciate the site is labeled as 'Video Tutorials', but written tutorials are just as important, maybe these could be incorporated in a similar fashion? I guess the existing ranking system would be more than adequate for the statistic side of things for written tutes, although not too many people seem to use it at the moment....do they?

Anyway, good suggestion OzziGuy, like it.

Regards.

Re: Tutorials

Nice idea, I will definitely look into it. One thing we do have to consider is redirecting the old urls, since quite a few sites link to them, people will get broken links once we change the directory structure... Although there should be a way to fix it.

Re: Tutorials

Well it depends I think, some tutorials that really need to explain a part of a 3d application in detail especially for people that are new to modeling for example a video is better because they can see the exact steps being taken.

On the other hand, some tutorials can be more abstract and have more theory than practice, then a written tutorial can be far more useful, so for basic stuff videos are great and more advanced topics written tutorials are the way to go... Most people following more advanced tutorials won't need step by step instructions since they will probably know their app pretty well.

Re: Tutorials

I prefer video tutorials becouse I'm begginer and from video tuts I can learn much more.
Text tuts are nice but it's much more time comsuming to make one (I speak about step by step tuts). I hope there will be more videos on enjoyCG. I think here are the best video tutorials (I started my "adventure" with 3DsMax when I watched tutorial from enjoyCG)

Re: Tutorials

hello guys, in particular Jelmer,

I'm working on a few tutorials for alpha channels in photoshop and the numerous uses, ranging from linking to 3d apps to creating '3d' within photoshop for beginners to sharpening lo-res images and utilising the render filters within PS. If anyone has any requests for bespoke PS uses i would love to try and help, pls let me know people. maybe you would like to know how to set your own brushes up, or cut out photographic hair quickly and more precisely. i will post back asap

Could you suggest the best method to supply? i understand you are working on a better format, does this mean a combo' of text and video? just, i have started to produce in HTML format and would be sad for this to be excluded! dont mind doing either or both of course.

cheers,

rob

Re: Tutorials

Well you can use html, but it might be difficult to copy that into the forum, personally I just type tutorials when I'm creating a new thread, of course threads are moderated in the tutorials forum, so what you could do is type it in any application you want and once you're done copy it to a new thread and add some images or video.

If you want to do an entire video tutorial you need an application to record that first (camtasia or camstudio), then you need to export it into a usable format and finally upload it (ftp), if you want to do that contact me and I can setup an ftp account to upload images and videos.

I don't know what you can do with photohop exactly, I think you should just cover the areas which you know a lot about, it's easier for you and will make a better tutorial.
