Chair - competition rules & guidelines - read before posting!

First of all, welcome to the first official EnjoyCG challenge!

The theme of this competition is: a chair

Quote:
-noun
a seat, esp. for one person, usually having four legs for support and a rest for the back and often having rests for the arms.
nice and simple to get started with, here are some interesting designs to get you inspired:

Rules & guidelines

When you decide to join the competition you can create a thread in this forum, choose the appropriate prefix (Competition #1) and use your forum username as a title for the thread.

The deadline for this challenge is: Wednesday 31 january, midnight. (GMT+1)
entries posted after the deadline won't be considered in the voting but it is still allowed to post your work.

It is advised to post work in progress, so other members can help you along the way to improve your work, because learning is the primary goal of this challenge! The final renders should be at least 800x600, other dimensions are allowed as well, and larger images are fine too.
You should post at least 2 renders, one wireframe and one shaded, lit and rendered version, if you don't find the time to texture or add shaders to your model, clay renders are allowed as well but we recommend finishing the whole piece.

That's it for now, if you think we forgot something or have any questions post here and this will be adjusted, have fun!

Oh the coincidence! Safe to say I'll be entering

edit: Since I already have a WIP for this in the WIP forum, do you want me to copy/paste my WIP so far, or just link to it, or just move from that one to this one, or do you want to move it here, or would you rather me stop listing possibilities?

edit again: Nvm...

Actually, I'll be doing that... It'll make it more legitimate anyway, I realized working from an existing one is more or less giving myself a head start... which = no.

yeah, the idea is that you start from scratch of course, it should be easier now you know how it's done better.

I have questions about the rules... Does the chair have to be created and rendered in max, or can it be created in max and then rendered with different software? Are we allowed to use material presets or should the materials be created from scratch too? And where would we post our final renders, in Finished Work?

Doh! Nevermind about the final render question, I answered my own question.

material presets are ok, it doesn't matter which software you model and render with.
