Final entries & voting

Down here you will see all the final entries which qualify, which means they are valid and can be voted on, thus entries not seen here can't be voted on. If you think your entry should be added, or you feel treated unfairly please contact me or anyone from our staff.

How voting works:
Basically the same as earlier competitions, you select the 3 entries you think are best, of course, try not to be biased, and do not vote for your own entry.

Example:
1. 3ds max
2. XSI
3. Maya

Of course, critique and reasons for picking this list is also allowed.

Voting by staff will be done separately, and will be shown when the winners are announced.

OK. Here's my votes.

1st) Koolnits. - An excellent bathroom with good texturing and nice lighting. Not sure about the placement of one or two items like the light or the towel rail above the bath, but generally a very nice bathroom.

2nd) Mr Tom. - A crazy amount of work especially modelling in the smaller details like peeling paint but I think you ran out of time so it looks a little unfinished. Needed the debris on the floor and I think you could have got more atmosphere from the lighting.

3rd) F3lic3. - Again, very nice work. Some of your textures could be improved with dedicated texture maps and a little more attention to detail, like the grain direction of wooden skirting boards and window frames, but like I said, very nice work. The modelling is nice and clean but as was mentioned in the thread, the staging was maybe a little too clean for the environment. Only someone with OCD would have all their furniture at right angles.

Excellent competition and I truly enjoyed it. Good Luck to the finalists.

EDIT:
btw
Just want to say, Honorable Mention to Kornflakes. Good work, good final image and it is plain to see how much you have improved throughout the competition by a quick look through your thread. Congrats for that

Jelmer, not being biased at all in rating these marvellous renders is not possible, everyone sees different things in a different light (for example I like Doofus' entry a lot because it concerns japanese culture and I am a huge fan of that)

Very nice renders, all of you! It's hard to judge which are best.

1. Doofus

I like this render the most. The composition is well done and the picture is very clear. You can grasp the full image with one look, and then you start finding all sorts of details in it. There are so many details in this picture that make it stand out - the quality of the ceiling, the decoratings in the windows, the paper lamps, the plants and the vases all look very good. One thing that could be improved is the weird pattern the light leaves on the floor. There are some antialiasing issues as well.

2. Koolnits

This is a very professional-looking arch-viz render. Everything looks very clean and stylish, and that makes it appeal to possible customers. There are some faults in the design though. Who, for instance, would place an electric device directly above a bath tub? I can also notice a few weird things here, from the 3d work point of view.. the water shouldn't be as wavy as it is now, there probably are not many things that would distort the peace of the water, or is there an earthquake? it should be very still and look almost like a mirror. Another thing is, what is that weird looking white reflection in the tub? Does it reflect the floor? If yes, then nevermind, but it looks weird to me nevertheless :b

3. TheRedBob

I didn't really expect a scene like this! It brings to my mind the image of a shady bar/coffee house/cigar club, its athmosphere is pretty cozy and nice. Things to improve would include the texture of the side of the bar counter, it looks pixelated in the light. The stools don't look too comfortable with the metal spikes sticking out.
