| Make your Biped walk The following tutorials was provided by Martijn from Pixelstudio - a CG blog & resource site. Hi people. This time a short tutorial on how to let a biped walk. there are a couple of different ways you can do this. For example you can use the footstep mode, or you can use pre-recorded motions and load that onto you biped. I will presume you have some knowledge. if you dont understand it, please contact me! When you play with the footstep mode you will see that the result isn’t that good. You can get this better but it will require some work. A quicker way is using pre-recorded motions. the are called ‘Motion capture’ files. most of them are .BIP or .BHV files. you will find some motions on the 3dsmax cd-rom. we are also gonna use motions that you will find on the 3dsmax cd-rom. There are also a couple of ways to load and use .BIP files. i will show you one. i find this one simple to use. Now enough blabla, lets start off and create a biped. Goto the motions tab and go into the Motion Flow mode. I use this to load my motions and play with them. also the can be used to combine motions. Now when you click Motion flow, you will see some other options. To start off click on “show graph” This will open up the graph view, a little windows in wich you can load the motions.Click on the button “Create multiple Clips” and load the WALK.BIP file.Do this again and load up the WalkStop.bip file. You should have the same as me: To get a motion on your biped you have to create a script (don't be afraid it is not maxscript hehe) If you look in the properties panel of max you see a button that is called Create script. Click the button and then click on on the WALK button in your motion flow graph. When you do this you will see the blue bar turns red, now click again on the WALK. you will see a arrow, and you can see the script is adjusted. Now click on the walkstop. right click to finish your script. you should have something like this: Now when you play you animation you should have you character walking and it Stops. When you want the motion to go on your biped, click the script button. and then click on the “Create unified motion”. you can now go out motion flow and enjoy your biped’s walk. Hope you have learned something! Best regards, |
