right, here are my settings and results:
length: 23 minutes
size: 50 mb
resolution: 800x600
codec: avi, techsmith (designed for capturing tuts/software)
framerate: 5pfs
audio: 3 kb ps

i think it should be possible to get the filesize down at least 10-15 mb, video tutorials on 3dpalace.com are much smaller, but use the same codec and similar settings..

Well that depends on what tutorial you look at really! For example in the blackout set there's an 11minute long 29MB video and later on a 24min long 25MB video! Your audio can go down to 2kb/s, and as I said before change the screen colour to 16-bit - this has quite a large effect.

3D-Palace also has the help of a guy who's really good at compression, so I think that's another trick used!

oh yeah i forgot to mention that i had already set it to 16 bit..
The 1 kb of audio won't matter a lot but every bit helps i guess..
another setting that might affect the filesize is the keyframe rate, i'll try playing with that too. eg: 'keyframe every .... frame'
thanks for the suggestions!

i've got it down to 48 mb, and because there's quite a bit of movement in there i think i'll leave it like this for now.

The tutorials from you Jelmer, are always nice (exept for the funny sound and quality (well the most of your tutorials)of your tutorials (although you mentioned now: HQ), but something about this tutorial:

The wall texture sucks ass.
Try to find (or make one yourself) a better higher quality texture.
The result etc are looking nice, but that, to me, totally ruins the model.

BTW: are you Dutch or German?

i'm dutch, but, why do you think the texture sucks? After making it tileable it looks pretty good to me, i agree that some adjustments need to be made. Like adding some dirt to the wall, could you be a bit more clear about your critique?

hello, i've been going through some of your tuts and i'm at a hang up on the castle. i went to the web site you mentioned for the bricks on the walls but i can not figure out what to do with them. how can i import the image files into 3d studio? i feel like a noob because i haven't seen anyone else ask the question anywhere.
thanks in advance

the final textures are included in the 'included_files.rar' so you can get them there. It's pretty simple, basically you click the diffuse slot, then you get a list of types to choose from, select 'bitmap' and there it is!
