I didn't do this tutorial myself, but see every tutorial as a guide on how to achieve things. If you got it looking right to you then don't have to search for things the writer did different.
But to clear this up let's have a look at this point again.

I think the last 3 sentences tell you what he checked to get this effect.
enable Multipass Effect and select motion blur. Afterwards have a play with your values for this.
