Nice tutorial, but for me it didnt work properly because i placed the push modifier on top of the symmetry modifier i guess. An other way to get a nice wireframe render is using the composite material, use your normal material as "Base Material" and add a standard map with "Wire" checked to the Mat. 1 slot.
I attached a render in which i used both methods, the upper one is the one with the cloning method lower one the composite method.
I can´t see major differences

and for it not for the comment about it not working.........

save the file

collapse the stack

move the objects origin to the centre of the object (click the heighrachy tab....click move pivot only....click center to object)

re-try tutorial, should work perfectly

huh) interesting way how to do a wire render ,, dont know but i do it with mental ray)
1. assign the renderer to mental ray
2. set up the scene
3. do a skylight there as a light source
4. turn on the material editor
5. change from standard to composite
6. the base material should be a simple color or any material which u want like white
7. the first material slot would be standard and the color change to which u want that your wire would be, check wire
8. turn on in mental ray render setup final gather
9. render )
