great tut jelmer; a few pointers for any one who is doing this:

to make an object see-through press Alt+X
when modeling splines use the connect tool instead of all that new line, fuse, weld stuff

btw when you drew the round large button look carefully where you are positioning it because your model wasnt lined up with the blue prints

hope this helps

ah sorry, i forgot to mention that you need the techsmith codec for this one, it's not divx. Check out the first post of this thread for a link to that codec.

I liked it, worked well. I'm basically a newb, know how to do some things, but sometimes it would take me a while to figure out what happend...

Here is some results from me.

Ivan was right about the positioning of the control wheel. It's upside down and backwards on the tutorial one. All good though

nice work! you might want to improve the lighting and shaders a bit though, add some reflection, maybe a few more lights and make sure you have final gather on!

I guess i need to find a good lighting tutorial. Don't really know how to add reflections yet or really improve the shaders. I found final gather and enabled that, so trying that.

For some reason my shuffle isn't like as bold with colors with the textures as yours. Like mine is just bland... Did you do post work to it at all? I think maybe if i do it'll make it look better, but i'd like to get it as good as possible right out of 3dmax. Like right now my whites are just kinda grey and my greys are just kinda grey, lol.

I did try taking texture pics and bringing up the contrast in photoshop, that helped but not a whole lot.

Any ideas? Or any links to good lighting tutorial? You may have one i just haven't looked around alot yet.

One other thing, when I put the blue print textures on a plane to build the shuffle, mine wasn't near as sharp as yours was. Mine was kinda blurry, i couldn't even read the measurements off the blueprint picture anymore. Is there a setting in 3dmax to change that quality, or is my vid card just not good enough? When i render stuff out it's fine, just while working it was blurry.
