Ya, video tutorials are better for a couple reasons. The first is that you don't have to read. Some things are hard to explain in writing, so you can just show it with a video tutorial as Cu441es said. And the maker of it is more likely to give tips for things somewhat unrelated to the subject of the tutorial. And I prefer avi to wmv. Wmv has the tendency to blur things out that it doesn't feel like showing.

Smile First Steps...

Hallo everyone! I am making my first steps in 3Ds Max right now and would like to learn creating free shape objects as soon as possible. My first task is to create a 3D object in the shape of a heart. I know, I'm a bit late for the Valentine's day, but there is going to be another one next year. ;D If we talk about it seriously, then I need this shape for the logotype. Could somebody please recommend me some good tutorial or any other material that could help me? Thanks for help!

would suggest going through the tutorials on this site, you'll soon learn that, text based tutorials are not all the same and not all written to the same standard.

word to the wise, get to know your environment, learn the basics, learn them and learn them again. There are no click and magic solutions, I've used may be less than 6 modifiers in all.

I've built some great models, but learned one thing, whatever you do, keep the poly count simple, make it too complicated and you'll regret it cos you'll have to figure out how to move all the vertices around to fix it.

do yourself a favour, you see the 3DS max tutorials in the helpfile, they're there for a reason, lol start with those because they're designed to get you up and running and they're written by the best in the business who want to see you modeling as quickly as possible.

Othere thing to bare in mind 'two halves make a whole' lol you only have to model half of the model and use symetry to duplicate the otherside of the model, so twice as much completed in half of the time.

Oh and most of what you want, can be made from a box by moving, extruding and chamferring vertices, edges and polys. take your time, cos if you don't you'll only have to repeat the lesson till you learn it, so don't run, walk and enjoy the moment of your growth.

have fun
