i am not an expert i am still abeginner
i thinnk that particles is the way that can help in doing what you are asking for
but it is not so easy to understand
to learn about particles you will need to learn about
i beleive CGacademy cds in particles will help you
but
they are five cds but believe i am in the third one right now but it is really great to learn more about particles
