good to see you've started with concept art, never under estimate that part!
I guess the city is going to be on top of that box? might be a good idea to draw that as well, annd feel free to post your WIP here if you need critique!

Jelmer:

Well, the box is merely just for city placement and scale. It will be done on the landscape.

My idea is, that where the fog/mist is (which I don't think will stay, but i'll see), there will be a valley, with a river running through it. Lots of forest going right up to the mountain faces. The city will be built ontop on the river, or the river will run through it.

Right now, I am just building up a sense of scale and basic design.

Thanks for the input, what I post on the competition post, I will post here too for some extra critique.

I am having trouble getting into the 3dm3 website.

Can anybody try go to thier website and see if they have the same problem with loading the site?

I wish to post an update there, but the site just doesn't load.

Thanks in advance to all.

Question

Jelmer:

Hope it comes online soon.

Anyway, i'll post a WiP here. Just for some creative suggestions as 3DM3 is down and i'm in need of some ideas and comments.

Still got LOTS of work to do! Wondering if I will get it done in time.

Things to be done soon.
1)Cliffs/Mountains: More detail and shaping. Correct texturing and colouring. Adding forests on the top of some of them, and on ledges that life can grow. In short, getting them a little more realistic.

2)Waterfall(s): Entire waterfall(s) to be done. E.g. Placement and style. Wondering if I should go full out on my computer and animate it.

3)River: Better placement. Then texture it. Also, adding detail to the river shore. E.g. Rocks, grass, dead trees in the river ect. Will decide more later.

4)Forest: Enough said.

5)City: Poor notebook... I think it will have a cardiac arrest it if finds out how much detail I have in mind for this.

6)Lighting: Decisions decisions.

7)Vines/tree/thing (city base thing): Much much much more to come!

And everything else that is obvious. Otherwise this list will be very long.

that's a great start! i like the cliffs on the left a lot, they're a bit vague and less realistic on the right.
Regarding the waterfall, i wouldn't animate it if it's not neccessary, would be a waste of (render) time i think..
I like the base of the city in the middle, eagerly waiting for more updates!

I'm not sure if you have any concepts, it's really important to have a good idea of how you want the end result to look so if you don't have any you could paint over the 3d to have a better idea of how the city and other details will look.

Jelmer:

I agree with the right cliff. I will fix it up soon, or even make it from scratch. And also will re-texture it. Just need to fix some other things before going back to that.

As for the concept art part, I have a pencil rough, but I have no scanner. I also will post it with the final render because I might vary from it.

Will keep you updated.
