Well, we are a community of new 3ds max users, we do have some people to help you who are more experienced though (including my self... jk) but yeah, its a lot easier to learn from people you're own skill level, that way you can understand things easier and they arn't said in a confusing way. Anyways, welcome to the forum.

Hello and I'm sure you will learn at least some good things. Everything I know except opening the program basically came from this site. Your avatar a 3d model?

Edit : lol we posted at the same time and perhaps you should take out the jk part I have learned numerous things from you and you have been a great help.

Hello every one.
My name is Elsdon and I live in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin.
I have been dabbling in 3d modeling as a hobbyist for a number of years, around ten.
For the most part I have used Blender, for two reasons. 1. It really is a very good program. 2. I’m cheap.
Well a couple of months ago I finally scraped together the price for Max 7 and have been trying to learn it every since.
So far I have been working with tutorials and not really creating anything of any consequence.
Hopefully that will change in the not to distant future, as my expectations and enthusiasm levels are high.
This looks like a pretty good place for me to learn what I need, and hopefully contribute some along the way as well.

I’ve added something I did in Blender just so you can see which way my tastes head.

So, thanks for reading this, thanks for not smoking and heck, thanks for just being you.

Els

hi eldson!
wow 10 years... thats a lot bro
i've tried Blender... well, i launched it and i stared at that cube for a while... pushed every single button i could find... non of them allowed me to create anything.... how the hell is that program operated... nothing works... that cube just stands there and thats it... couldnt find any modifiers or anything... a complete friggin mystery program. no wonder its for free...

oh and i like that render of yours... looks very... old. 50s or 60s apartment.
now with 3ds max you can render it to be more realistic and stuff... i hope you do.

keep it up.

well motammad, that's the same thing that happens to everyone when they open up a 3d program for the first time, it is difficult, but i've heard a lot of good things about blender, because it's free, they have even made the very first open source film with it, it was called elephant's dream i think, not sure about that one though, it's a pretty powerfull program.

Elsdon, welcome to the community, your blender work looks pretty cool, i'm sure you'll have no problem adapting to 3ds max quickly. If you have any questions or have started something in 3ds max be sure to post that on the forums so we can help you along, thanks for joining in.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Motammad I agree that Blender can be a mystery. I acutally down loaded it twice. The first time I did the same as you, and got the same results. Then about a year later I tried again and hit the tuts. Once the interface is learned it's not really that bad.

At least with Max I could make a tea pot right away. LOL

lol, this isn't supposed to be a flaming war about max and blender, honestly, it takes time to learn whatever software you're using..
