3D World Magazine

3d World Magazine

I got tired of not being able to get the magazine from the shops. sometimes it was late in delivery and sometimes there would only be one copy. The magazine is so important to keeping in touch, its not just a magazine its a montly book on the latest of the latest of everything to do with CGI.

If somethings don't make sense to you now but you're growing as an artist there'll come a time when you remember that certain issue that had a review/interviwe/turorial you need to read.

Well Subscption is well worth it, you get a 40% discount, not only that you get it two weeks earlier than everyone else.

I got my copy today Christmas Eve, there's a mocap competition with gear worth £38,000.00 I don't need it but I'll have a go so that if I win I can sell it and do all sorts with the money.

But even when I went to the website, the issue I have is not even on their own website, there are hours and hours of training videos and tutorials. Peter Draper an angel or a god on 3DS MAx has done again a fantastic tutorial that shows you how to do ocan waves and foam without plugins.

NOt only have I got subscriptions to 3d World but to the sister magazines Imaginefx and Computer arts because basically as a CG artist you end up as an Visual Design Illustrator and all three magazines compliment each other.

Conrflakes was asking about info on animating characters theres 3 3 pages of profesional tips on how to not just animate a character but hints on how to do it properly, you get stuff that would take years of making mistakes in just minutes to learn from.

Errrm I figure you figured I am impress with the magazine and I would say get your subscription now

happy xmas

Re: 3D World Magazine

I on the other hand dont exactly like 3d world magazine tbh..........the reviews of products they do are COMPLETELY unrealistic for us common folk.....for example how many average joes who pay £6 for a magazine would considder reading a £1500 graphics card, a 9 million pound mocap suite, a £3000 render farm server or £700 hard drive towers (eg Drobo's)....if you had that sort of funds / resources youd be in the business already

The tutorials always seem dysfunctional and as theyre free they lock them down some wont render using video post some wont save once youve finished (fair play as you wouldnt want anyone plajorising your work i guess)

Yes I seemed to have slated this mag in my post but thats my 2 cents, Dont get me wrong im not saying dont get it, some articles are VERY handy and useful....I just dont find that the magazine is worth the £6 fee each time....... I have a market stall in town that sells outdated magazines for £1 a piece and they save 3d world for me....ok i get it a month late but I save £5 in the process lol

Re: 3D World Magazine

cool if i had that option i would go for it but there is a stall that does that sort of thing but by the time i travelled to it, I may as well have bought the mag. 3D world lets be honest is not your average man in the street magazine.

They review products and films that cost hundresds of thousands, its not like a games review magazine, we're talking industrial shop conversations. Th fact is we will need to know about the expensive hardware that the average man in the street cannot afford.

If you look at the returns you want to make on the investment in the time and effort you have put in to developing your skills and the the number of units that could be sild from the product you are going to make. well you're talking about being a part of a development team that hopes to make its company millions, were not talking ofice toys but high end gear for the serious developers.

If you were workingon a new game wouldn;t you want to work with the best kit? I don't think their reviews are so unrealistic. Not from where I am dreamng lol.

anyways bro happy xmas

Re: 3D World Magazine

3dworld magazine is pretty good I think, the articles are most of the time of good quality and in depth as well. The important industry news and new technology and ideas are useful as well.

I've just renewed my subscription, unfortunately I was a little late so I guess I miss this one issue..

Maybe get in touch with the publisher, they usually replace dodgy disks.
