Ads by Google= cash$$$$$$

My friend and i had a big chat about google ads, He said that if you have a webpage and you add ads by google you will get money

Is this true Jelmer or if you got a webpage, that you will get money by ads?
If true then how much money?

I think it depends on how many clicks you get or how many visitors

It's a complete minefield but essentially you get paid per click, on the adds that is....sounds simple but there are many criterior that have to be met before a 'click' is deemed valid....you'd probably only get 1 'valid' one out 100. Take into account that that 1 'valid' one is basically not worth the screen it's printed on and you can see that you would need many thousands of 'clicks' to make it pay anything useful.

Great if you're "Google", not so great for the individual. There is of course no harm in displaying adds but is it worth it? Could the space be used for something more productive?

Hmm yeah I do make some money from it, I've had better months though, right now I'm making a little more than hosting costs, also because we're on a better, reliable server right now which is more expensive obviously.

It is possible to make a lot of money with google adsense, basically you need lots of traffic, well paying ads (google picks the ads for you automatically based on content) and optimized, relevant ads so the CTR (click through rate) is high.

@ MrTom, I think it's awkward because the gist of what ya said was that Google ads are useless and shouldn't be used.... yet... first thing ya look at on EnjoyCG.com is...well... ads by Google.

It's very rare that I'll actually say something is useless or shouldn't be used, and would then only do so if I had had first hand experience.

What I try to do instead is to give pro's and con's, the good and the bad, about the subject, rather than a clear-cut yes or no. This time is no different.

Yes, ads can draw an income, but only if you get 'x' amount of clicks on them. It appeared to me that ExTaZ may not be fully aware of just how many 'clicks' would be needed just to make a very small amount of cash, the original post indicates this just from the Subject Title alone.

Jelmer has indicated quite clearly that he only just makes enough from the ads to cover the hosting costs. Take into consideration that Ecg is a popular site you can work out for yourself that not only do you need the traffic but people clicking on the ads as well to make them worthwhile.

As I said before, if you run a site with many thousands of hits per day, then the chances of someone clicking on an ad obviously increases, the chances for an individual with only a few hits per month are obviously considerably lower.

In an effort to not mislead ExTaZ, I've mearly pointed out that yes, you can make money from ads, but also not to expect them to make him a millionaire overnight.

I have used these in the past and currently on my blog. From personal testimonial of one of the people who do not get much traffic...... They don't work. But the reason is because i cant get enough traffic. Since i placed them on my blog around two months ago i have gained 11 cents. Morale of this story.... Do not expect to make a lot of money unless you can drive traffic to your site.
