One more week

I remember a few years ago when I was in my first class of 3D modelling and animation. We opened 3DS Max seven, when I saw all the icons, i think I wet myself. lol Immediately I thought oh god what have I got myself into here.

Several years later, a total addict to CGI and the friendliness and encouragement in the community, I still can't get enough. Yesterday at university I was talking to a member of staff and he mentioned JANET the UK's joint academic research network. It brought back memories of the days when to use a wordprocessor you had to know all the formatting codes, basically to produce document was like learning html and we did because there was no alternative. PC's had not been heard of and there were millions of different operating systems, Bill Gates was still a spotty teenage kid. lol

I digress, I have one more week to go, one more week of working on assignments then freedom, freedom, I tell ya, hahahahahaha well sort of, but a few months of being able to push my skills even further.

I'm pleased that the first ever model I made is still on this site and I remember the pride I felt in completing it and all the encouragement I got from Jelmer and his team. Not long after some lessons at college. I could model a character in a few weeks of not sleeping then with repititional practice, I could model a character in 40 minutes, my tutor could do it in 16 minutes. Dave King in 6 minutes; check him out on the [url="http://area.autodesk.com/"]autodesk[/] area website.

All the support and encouragement spurred me to seek a profession where like minded people existed in that they were excited about the work of others and their own and were encouraging and gave constructive criticism. Having gone through college, and now at uni, I'm still excited, but I've been spending more time doing traditional based image rendering, in charcoal, water colour, pastels and pencil etc, taking classes in graphic illustration, photography, screen printing, and screen printing to name a few.

learning has been fun, the journey has been even more fantastic and the friends, you guys have been really great. Now with one more week to go, I'll be able to get back to some modelling, and more animations. So watch this space during the summer holidays.

hope you're all well and speak to you soon

showing your age slightly there man

"It brought back memories of the days when to use a word processor you had to know all the formatting codes"

lol

the main reason i become so interested in anything is mainly the community surrounding them. I love my cars and am a member of a few motor sport communities, i love MMO games and have several people i talk to and play games with whom ive never met and probably wont ever meet but id call them a friend. Im not a social outcast and have a large circle of friends but sometimes I feel that the only ones who can help are the ones who don't know me, who aren't afraid of pointing out criticisms within my work and giving helpful advice.

the best part of communities such as this is that we are here for one sole reason, our personal interest in the 3d world. This means we wont get any idiots bothering us who want to poke fun or mess things up, we just get quality level headed members, everything runs smoothly. I particularly enjoy watching the skills of myself and others grow upon sites like this and the overall helpfulness and quality of the members is astounding and this helps peoples skills grow faster than anything within my opinion. If i post up a WIP and somebody comments it im motivated to finishing the model and taking into account all comments....the model generally comes out better than i anticipated

i salute u Enjoy CG and thank Jelmer and company for all their hard work maintaining the site
