Like many I was new to the world of CG and got hooked not from just using the software but from the friendships made and support given by people who were happy to share their time and knowledge to make me a better CG Artist.
I went from not knowing anything to now where I am in China for the next 5 months working for a digital media company that does literally everything to do with games, movies and animation.
It's great that all their tv animation stuff is in Maya and working as an animator using Maya, all my Max skills are transferable. But funny enough all their game animations are done in 3DS max.
As an animator, trainee animator, correction sorry, currently animating a walk cycle for a prehistoric bird. Hard enough animating something I know but to animate something no one has ever seen, well that's a challenge.
Basically by getting my skills together there is option to move to different teams and projects to expand. I t's amazing that a lot of people are actually self taught and have come from different professional backgrounds.
But as you guys already know, patience and determination is the key to success. I would suggest to any of you who have time this summer to offer to work for a company for free to get the exposure.
I can promise you that working for free to gain professional experience is worth a firtune for any of you who want to make a living in CG.
