| well, the models used in that image are fairly simple. unexperienced 3ds max users often underestimate the value of lighting and textures, most of the time time those are more important than the models themself i think. You don't need v-ray for this, mental ray will do fine (especially in max 9, in combination with the new A&D materials!) I suggest you just get started with it and with our help you'll be able to achieve it for sure! Just make sure you plan ahead, make a sketch or two, maybe one from the top view to arrange your room, also determine the size of your room in cm's with mental ray to get the right scale and realistic lighting with mental ray. |

| create a raytrace material, go to maps and pick 'environment' simply put the hdri map in there, now every time you apply this material to a model that environment will be used for the reflections. |
