New comp

got a new comp today! finally...after having the old single core 3ghz for 6 years (was state of the art when we bought it but is sadly barely running atm)

Its an Acer Veriton 7900pro with custom parts

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.6ghz (thats right...quad core )
Nvidia Geforce 8800 Ultra
4GB ddr2 RAM
2x 350gb HD

also with it got a spankin new Samsung 22" HD LCD screen, with a 2ms response time and a 3000:1 contrast ratio.

its a dream come true, this thing runs great, going to get max up and running tonight and check it out...and you can be sure ill pick up Crysis in the near future

Re: New comp

Nice spec!

Only thing to add is guard the recovery CD's (or whatever) with your life! Reinstalling an OS to an Acer system can be a right pain. It may be different now, but Acer used to use Symantec Ghost on their recovery disks.....if ya don't have the original CD's then you could run into problems.

I only say this from my past experience with Acer, and trying to install the OS on a new HDD to replace a faulty one......turns out Acer use FAT32 for their drives.....or at least they did.

Anyway, enjoy your new hardware and lets hope you never need the recovery disks.

Cheers.

Hey mate, thanks alot for the advice. Your talking about the back up CD it tells you to burn the first time you switch it on right? Burnt it onto a CD, im probably going to make another copy as a backup..for the backup lol

Re: New comp

No problem, I know it's a new system but if you prepare for the worse now then......well ya know the rest.

My Acer came with a system disk and two recovery disks. These are the only ones my system will boot from if it all goes wrong.......even a copy won't work as the CD serial numbers will be different. (Thanks Acer!..NOT!) So look after any disks that come with it and yes....make any disks that it advises you to.

That said I've had no other problems with mine at all, only a faulty HDD which wasn't really Acer's fault.

Cheers.
