If you run a 32 bit version of Windows, you can ONLY get 3 GB RAM. The reason for that is that a 32 bit operating systen can only adress or use a total of 4 GB and since Windows sets off some of the functions and crap (like your videocard memory etc) to use some of the RAM you only get about 3.. The more memory your videocard etc uses in the computer the "less" RAM you get use..

The ONLY real and stable way of getting to you 4GB or more is to move to a 64bit operating system. Then it's all good

good luck, and remember the speed of the memory does not matter that much, just the ammount..
