Quidam 3 review:
I have been using Quidam for 2 years now and I would recommend it to anyone. I have worked in Video games as a character artist and I have worked in Architecture, advertising and the casino business.
The main reason for getting Quidam is that it's a character solution with a very easy to learn interface that's great for professionals and hobbyists. The new features in Quidam 3 are UV mapping and and improved polypainting feature. You can also do 3d sculpting on the pre made characters, props and imported meshes.
The best feature of Quidam 3 for me is the ability to rig characters and paint on the skin weights very quickly. You can have a character with all added props done in no time. I guess some people might compare Quidam to Poser and there are some similarities but I find that Quidam is much faster and easier to learn.
In my work flow I use Quidam and zbrush. I find that the models from Quidam have good topology and I use them as base models for my 3d sculptures. I am glad that Quidam 3 also has a renderer with ray tracing and now comes with lots of props and scenes.
I know that there are studios that have their own set of characters and models that they will re-use for various things but I would still recommend Quidam 3 because it's totally up to date with the work flow of a video games character artist. Quidam 3 has normal mapping, bump mapping and all of it's features can be done in real time with quick results. So all the professionals out there should still have Quidam 3. Why? because it's a time saver and it works with other 3d programs really well.
