Copying on same layer

I am trying to make a texture in photoshop for a row of books in unreal engine. I have been basically loading in a jpeg of some books, area selecting a book spine, copying and then pasting in on a new layer in my main book texture. However, I can't see an option whereby I can copy the copy so to speak within the layer i've pasted it. I can of course copy the layer and manipulate it that way, but is there a way to copy on one layer?

I'm awaiting an insanely simple answer but this is one of those cases where its just not happening for me and I need help

in a nutshell....nope lol p[hotoshop is built upon its layer system, if you go down to the layers box on the bottom right hand of the interface and "merge the layer down" it will add the second book to the origional layer

hope that helps

np if you use the "clone stamp" tool from the toolbar on the left that may give you the effect you need also

choose the clone stamp tool.........ALT + LEFT CLICK on an area you would like to clone.......LEFT CLIcK to paint, its a hard tool to get used to but youl get the idea of it when you get used to it ^_^

If you want them all on one layer you can paster it on a separate layer, move it and put it where you want and do any adjustments, then press CTRL and E to merge the layer down. That can make it more manageable.
