Tutorial request / Importing DWG file Hi all Does any body have a tutorial on importing a DWG file and also to give the obejct texture. What I am looking for is: I have a DWG file. When it is imported it is an editable spline. Now i this DWG file there is a house, location on a road and also blue print off the inside off the house. I have to give the outside a texture, how do I do that ? I am new at this, but hooked very bad on 3DS. I have done a little modeling with editable polys, like the sword, shield and castle tutorial. But I have not done any thing with editable splines. Thanks in advance.

Hi TE No, I am not so good to explain. But the only view I can use is the top view port. Now everthing is in editable splines. What should I do next so I can texture this project ? I can send you the DWG file ?.

Re: Tutorial request / Importing DWG file Hi sponsormand, There are a few ways. It depends how you want to start modelling your house. This is what I normally do. I assume u're using AutoCAD and 3DS Max 9.0. You will need to start using the command EXT (Extrude) quite often here. Also make it a habit to create new layers for every different category of your model, say 3D-Wall, 3D-Winframe ... etc. for all 3D solids. After you've modelled everything, make sure u set the UCS to World. Then Purge everything else so your dwg wont be too heavy. Then use W (Write Block) and export the selected 3D layers to a new drawing file. Before you do that, close all other layers, the 2-D layers and leave the 3D layers on. Then, Open 3DS Max. I'm using Max 9.0, there's an option in the pull down menu. File ---> File Link Manager. Import your model in and click Attach. Good thing about this is the next time you modify your model in AutoCAD and Write Block, 3DS Max will know the linked file has changed, and you just have to go back to File Link Manager to update it, everything is auto. If you need anythign else, dont hesitate to ask. Good luck
